'Seeing some football…'

"We're here in Mexico City and loving every minute of it,' says The Edge. "As supporters of Street Child United, we wanted to come along today and support this great cause, see some football and soak up the atmosphere. There's no better town to host such a brilliant event."

Street Child United is a youth-led global movement working to change how the world sees, treats, and protects street-connected young people. Mexico City is host to the 2026 Street Child World Cup Tournament, with 30 teams from across the globe in town for the 6th-14th May event. 

Adam, Edge, Larry and Bono met with John Wroe and Judy Reith of Street Child United and, wearing the tournament shirt, Larry was on hand to toss the coin before the final at Parque Ecológico Lago de Texcoco... dryly recalling his Dublin roots, "Once a north side tosser always a north side tosser!" 

The 2026 tournament is in partnership with Fútbol Más México, a non-profit organization operating in Mexico since 2017 that uses soccer as a tool for social development, resilience building, and promoting well-being among children in vulnerable communities.

The band are in town to shoot a video for a new track, 'Street of Dreams', taken from their yet-to-be announced next studio album, due for release later this year. 

Filming at Republica de Brazil y Republica de Bolivia drew a huge crowd of fans despite inclement weather, with thunder and rain unexpectedly causing a generator to crash and a local family welcoming the band into their apartment to film on their balcony.
